East 17乐队由四位成员组成， Tony Mortimer（原名 Anthony Michael Mortimer，出生于 1970 年10月21 日），Brian Harvey（原名 Brian Lee Harvey ，于1974年8月8日）， Terry Coldwell（原名Terence Mark Colwell，出生于1974年7月21日），John Hendy（原名Jonathan Darren Hendy ，出生于1971 年3月26 日）。
East 17 在 London 组建的时候选择了这个奇怪的名字是因为他们在当地的邮政编码就是如此。 除了 Take That 之外， East 17 是英国 90 年代早期最成功的年轻偶像乐队，属于流行舞曲音乐风格。
乐队的灵魂人物 Tony Mortimer 具有创作歌曲的能力，他们在刚刚组建的时候试图模仿美国的rap 和 hip-hop 风格，但是最后定位为 R&B ， hip-hop 和流行音乐的商业组合体。
