This album was recorded by the Elmo Hope Sextet on May 7, 1956. It was thus at first released under the name of pianist Elmo Hope and called Informal Jazz (Prestige PRLP 7043) in 1956. Soon after, it was retitled Hank Mobley, John Coltrane: Two Tenors (same catalog number) and some years later it became John Coltrane: 2 Tenors with Hank Mobley (Prestige PR 7670). It was even reissued once under the real leader's name again in the 1970s (Elmo Hope: The All-Star Sessions) by Milestone.
