For a transplanted Chicagoan Haley Reinhart has made a sound and life that very much reflects the L.A. music scene. I recently saw Reinhart, who co-produced her stunning new album, Lo-Fi Soul, play as a special guest with the Doors' Robby Krieger at iconic Santa Monica recording studio the Village.

"The stuff with Krieger is crazy because he'll hit me up the night before," she says. "They came to me and asked me to be a part of their huge benefit for St. Jude's. They do this super rock star mash up of a show every year in honor of these kids with cancer, raise a ton of money. It's not only for a beautiful cause, but I'm working with these rock star legends."

Reinhart, who shows her versatility throughout Lo-Fi Soul, is as comfortable doing jazz with Jeff Goldblum as she is rocking with Krieger or longtime friend Steven Tyler.

"If you're gonna do a rock and roll song or you're gonna sound soft it all has to connect on some level. I've always had my own different identities within my repertoire and in my soul," she says. "So I do the rock and roll stuff with Robby Krieger and Slash and people like that. They keep having me back and we have a blast together because they know it's in my blood and in my bones. But I also love the retro soul pop scene and I do jazz. So I think for this record I feel like I'm mixing all of those genres together."

To celebrate the superb Lo-Fi Soul I wanted to do something different. So we met in the San Fernando Valley at Vivian's Cafe and Reinhart took me through her eight L.A. spots that most influenced her sound and style. The list is as diverse and fun as her sound. Here, in Reinhart's words, is her L.A. tour of Lo-Fi Soul.
