  Funky Organ: B-3 Jazz Grooves is a killer little comp of some truly bad-ass Hammond B-3 madness with music by Charles Earland, Bill Heid, Joey DeFrancesco, Mike LeDonne & Joey’s pop, Papa John. This is stellar funky groove played out over 60 minutes with bass out no-holds-barred greasy goodness.

The knock against “audiophile” recordings is usually that they give great sound but boring content. That’s not the case here!
The sound, on SACD, is full, lush, smooth, detailed, & pulsating. About as close to “being there” as one can get in pre-recorded music. An area where SACDs (& vinyl) can beat regular Redbook CDs (is) in the driving beat. They can get the timing right so it is better connected to one’s nervous system.
The content is rocking, upbeat, contagious. While the B-3 organ is the star, other instruments get their licks in too so it is not all of the same thing, all the time. The various artists make for enough just enough variety that the whole is neither repetitious nor discordant.
You can listen carefully, in a quiet room, & enjoy this album or you can put in on during a rowdy house party – works both ways!
I’ve just about all of High Note’s SACD products & look forward to more. They are good value with great production quality & entertaining content, all at a great price.
