This is the last album of the famous Jazz at the Pawnshop sets recorded live at the Pawnshop jazz club, recorded on the 2nd night of a memorable live recording in December 1976. Tonight the Arne Domnérus quartet is augmented by Lars Erstrand on vibes.
Jazz at the Pawnshop is considered 1 of the most famous audiophile albums in music. Recorded over 2 nights at the intimate Pawnshop jazz club in Stockholm, both the musicianship & the engineering came together in a magical symbiosis captured on this enduring classic. Recording engineer Gert Palmcrantz used 1 pair of microphones spaced 8 inches apart for the main pick-up, with a couple of microphones placed to register the “live” atmosphere & a few discrete support mikes, all recorded on a pair of 2-track Nagra tape recorders in the restaurant kitchen!

Taken entirely from the 2nd of a legendary 2-day engagement at Stockholm's Pawnshop club, this 3rd of 4 CDs that fully document the gig puts the focus on vibraphonist Lars Erstrand who even gets top billing. Arne Domnerus on alto & clarinet co-stars & the rhythm section (pianist Bengt Hallberg, bassist Georg Riedel & drummer Egil Johansen) is also excellent. With the exception of a Charlie Parker blues ("Now's the Time"), the quintet sticks to swing & Dixieland standards & there are many swinging moments on such tunes as "In a Mellow Tone," "Take the 'A' Train" & "Struttin' with Some Barbeque." All of the volumes in this enjoyable series are worth picking up by straightahead jazz fans.
