Earth, Wind & Fire的灵魂人物Maurice White1941年出生在Memphis，从青少年时期便开始音乐生涯，曾以鼓手身分加入Ramsey Lewis Trio乐团，1969年离开后与好友组成Salty Peppers乐团，发行Uh Huh Yeah单曲后移居洛杉矶并将团名改为Earth, Wind & Fire。Earth, Wind & Fire(EW&F)早已被视作70年代流行节奏蓝调的首席代表乐团，他们圆熟融合灵魂、流行、放客、迪斯可、节奏蓝调…等各种领域乐风的风格，为70年代中后期的黑人流行音乐掀起一阵狂澜。成军於1970年的EW&F，是由该团创作核心Maurice White，与他的弟弟Verdine White和其他几位灵魂乐界好手共同组成。EW&F就维持著七至九人编制的规模，曲风也采多样管弦乐器共同搭乘出丰富热闹层次、挟带些许非洲传统味道的趋向。每位团员都是既能唱又能演奏多样乐器的EW&F，漂亮的真假音交替演唱方式以及炫丽的舞台装扮，也都成为他们的注册商标，并且对后来许多诸如：Kool & The Gang、The Commodores甚至Bee Gees等知名团体造成深远的影响。
