Veteran pop-rock artist Five For Fighting, best known for deeply affecting hits like "100 Years" and "Superman (It's Not Easy)," will return on Sept. 17 with its sixth studio album. Singer-songwriter John Ondrasik is previewing the latest full-length from his best-selling project with another emotional single, "What If".

"What If" finds Ondrasik pondering the different directions and intersections of personal experience over cymbal taps, rollicking piano and restrained guitar. "What if I had your heart? What if you wore my scars?" Ondrasik sings during the song's hook, before "What If" evaporates with a gorgeously simple conclusion.
"What If we could truly understand each other's experience?" says Ondrasik of his latest lead single. "Would our stereotypes and preconceptions change? Would compassion overcome insecurity and ideology? What if you were me? What if I were you?"
The as-yet-untitled next Five For Fighting album, which follows 2009's "Slice," was produced by Gregg Wattenberg and Derek Fuhrmann, who have separately worked with artists like Goo Goo Dolls and Phillip Phillips. "What If" will be available for purchase on Tuesday (June 11).
