This inspired coupling was Kyung-Wha Chung's recording debut, and as these exceptional performances prove, it wasn't just that famous strapless dress that launched her triumphant international career. Bruch's ever-popular First Violin Concerto gets a performance of genuine fire and passion. The Scottish Fantasia was a favorite of Jascha Heifetz, who performed it in a cut version with his customary perfection of technique. Chung really throws down the gauntlet, playing the work complete and really staking the music's claim to be considered a masterpiece. This is simply the best performance it's ever had. She's assisted in no small degree by Rudolf Kempe's masterful accompaniments.
